Industrial Occupational Hygiene

Occupational hygiene is generally defined as the art and science dedicated to the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, communication, and control of environmental hazards or stressors in, or arising from, the workplace that may result in injury, illness, or impaired well-being of workers and/or members of the community.

These hazards or stressors can be biological, chemical, physical, ergonomic, or psychosocial. Occupational hygiene also deals with the assessment of the extent of risk posed by the hazards and the development of effective strategies to eliminate or control the risks (risk management) .
